The South Slough of the Coos River is home to the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve which is a protected area of land and estuary. There are many birds that utilize this beautiful area such as Bald Eagles, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, Brown Pelicans, Egrets, Belted Kingfishers as well as harbor seals and at times, sea lions. South Slough Reserve requires outfitters to have a special use permit to conduct business in the reserve and we are the only outfitter that we know of that has a permit.
The tides are great in this estuary so we will plan to ride the ebbing and flowing tides to make this paddle a little easier. Total distance is about 4.6 miles over 2.5 hours and there is a 3 person minimum for this tour.
To get to the meeting point drive down Hinch road, take the left in the fork and stop at the bridge going over the water.
Please remember that guiding is a part of the service industry. If your guide takes care of you, take care of them. Tips are greatly appreciated.
