The boat basin in the Chetco River estuary offers a very easy calm water introduction where you can view the many different commercial fishing boats, Coast Guard vessels and pleasure craft moored up to the docks. From there you easily enter the Pacific Ocean to access the large kelp forests, rocky habitat and prominent Chetco Point. This headland protects the ocean waters in the area from the swells and wind providing amazing wildlife viewing and fishing opportunities. This is a great introductory ocean kayaking tour with some great more advanced situations for those more experienced paddlers. Gray whales are fairly common and Harbor Seals are the norm on this awesome 2 hour and 4 mile tour.
